In the face of seemingly endless antisemitic violence, the protagonist mourns the endless violence against Jews. From the depths of anguish, the protagonist seethes, seeing no God in the endless graves. The protagonist resolves to turn to a legendary kabbalistic act, the creation of a Golem. The protagonist prays, “May HaShem Avenge Their Blood.” Delving into the Sefer Yetzirah, the Book of Formation, and calling upon the Twelve Constellations, the protagonist creates a new Protector of the Jews from clay. The Destroying Angel emerges, with protagonist’s rage burning like an undying fire, rekindled from the brink of death. With every massacre, pogrom, and endless violence against the Jewish people in mind, the Golem enacts the protagonist’s vengeance. But among the violent fervor, terror takes hold of the protagonist. The Golem has gone beyond their instructions and enacts senseless violence against the homens, the enemies of the Jews, as well as their kin. The protagonist stands in utter horror at the violence they have unleashed, mourning the loss of their own soul in exacting revenge. In the wake of this violence, the protagonist recites Viddui, seeking atonement for their actions. We have acted perversely and wickedly. We have wilfully sinned. We have done violence. We have oppressed. We have committed evil. We are the ones who have acted wickedly. We have found truth in death.
